Walking is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Margaret River region. Whether it’s a leisurely amble or hiking adventure, there is a trail to suit your interests and ability. We offer a complimentary pickup and return for guests staying with us from Contos Camping ground to Gracetown… other areas can be organised at a small charge.
The Cape to Cape Track
Breathtaking coastal scenery, sheltered forests and pristine beaches are presented by the Cape to Cape Track between the lighthouses of Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste. The Track also features fascinating geology and history, abundant wildflowers in Spring and the chance to spot whales from June to December.
Starting and finishing at the Capes lighthouses, the track meanders 135km along the limestone ridge; the backbone of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. The entire walk takes a memorable 5-7 days, and access points at many popular spots such as Canal Rocks, Contos and Cosy Corner allow walkers to sample segments of the Track on excellent day or half-day walks.
Vintages Accommodation warmly welcomes Cape to Cape Track walkers. We appreciate the need for comfort, a good, quiet rest and perhaps a relaxing hot spa to help soothe the muscles. Massage treatments are also available in the privacy of your own unit from Body Bliss.
With complimentary drop off and pick up from the track, your hosts at Vintages Margaret River are happy to assist with any aspect of planning your walk, and can also arrange packed lunches.
Shorter walking and cycling trails
There are several peaceful forest and river walks a stone’s throw away from Vintages Accommodation. The nearby forest reserve has wildflowers in spring and plentiful birdlife year round. The river itself is only 5-10 minutes stroll through the forest, which has little pools for swimming and kayaking. An early morning walk along the Margaret River weir is beautiful, when dawn mist shrouds the still water like a magical cloak.
Good walks and bike rides around town include the Margaret River Heritage Trails, ‘Rails to Trails’ from Cowaramup to Margaret River and the Carters Road forest trails. Excellent cycle tracks are the 9km
Prevelly trail and the Ten Mile Brook trail from Rotary Park to Margaret River’s Dam.
Jane Scott’s book Walking Round in Circles is also highly recommended. It lists 27 circular walks in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, with a flora and fauna field guide for nature-spotting along the way.
